The short version

Terms of service.

Effective October 13, 2026

Tofu runs on your Mac. It listens to your day, writes your to-do list, and does the tasks for you, with your content kept on your own device. By using Tofu, you agree to these terms. They are short because there is not much to argue about.

Who can use it

You need to be at least 16 and legally able to agree to these terms. We can pause or end access when we need to, and you can stop using Tofu at any time.

What it costs

Capture, your list, and the evening text are free. When you ask Tofu to buy something, it finds the cheapest good option, pays with a one-time card made just for that order, and we keep a small share of what it saves you. We always show you the order before anything is charged, and nothing renews on its own.

Your accounts are yours

You connect your own accounts, such as Google, and their terms apply to them. When Tofu sends a message or places an order, it acts as you, from your account, so what it sends is your responsibility. Keep your Mac and your accounts secure; anyone who can use your Mac can use Tofu as you.

Your data stays yours

Everything Tofu keeps on your Mac belongs to you. We do not ask for a license to your conversations, your screen, your mail or your calendar, because we do not hold them. The little we keep on our servers, your email address and membership, we use only to run Tofu. Our privacy policy spells it out.

Listening and recording

Tofu listens on your device, and what it hears stays there. You decide when it listens and you can stop it at any time. In many places you must tell the other people and get their agreement before you record a conversation. That is your responsibility, and Tofu does not do it for you.

AI can be wrong

The list, the drafts, the summaries and the actions come from AI. It makes mistakes. Read before you send, and check before you rely on anything, especially money, health, legal or safety matters. When Tofu acts for you in an app or on a website, it follows your instructions and what it does counts as you doing it. It asks for your approval before anything that cannot be undone.

Use it responsibly

Do not use Tofu to break the law, send spam, harass anyone, bypass security, or get into accounts or systems you do not have permission to use.

What is ours

Tofu itself, its software, design and brand, belongs to us or our licensors. We give you a personal licence to install and run it. That licence is not transferable, and it ends if your access does or if you break these terms.

It is a work in progress

Tofu is early software. It may change, break, lose data, or go away. Keep backups of anything you cannot afford to lose. Your mail and files live with your own providers either way, so removing Tofu never removes them.

No promises

We provide Tofu "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties about reliability, availability, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose.

Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for indirect, special or consequential losses related to your use of Tofu, including lost data, missed messages, or an action taken on your behalf. Our total liability will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms as Tofu changes. We will post the new version here and update the date above. If you keep using Tofu, you accept the updated terms. Questions can be sent to lal00020@umn.edu.
